Speeding Ticket: Ontario driver in Washington State, 10mph over. Should I mitigate or fight?
Hello all,
I hope someone has been in my situation, because its a little odd. I am a Canadian citizen working in Seattle on a work permit. I have an Ontario plated car, and still use my Ontario drivers licence. I got a ticket today for going 10mph over the limit (10!). So I was wondering a few things:
Will I get any points on my Ontario licence?
if not, I will gladly pay this straight up, otherwise
Would it be better to ask for a mitigation hearing, or fight the ticket straight up?
I was just moving with traffic, and i was picked out of maybe a dozen cars to get tickited. I will gladly pay any fine, but I will do anything in my power to avoid points.
I hear that if you ask for a mitigation hearing, sometimes they withhold the points/infraction if you dont get a ticket for 6 months….
So should I get a traffic lawyer? or will this not affect my insurance (Canadian).
Additional info: I’m 20 years old, very good University student, and I never signed the ticket.
They may reduce your fine a little bit if you mitigate, but other than that, they don’t withhold points, etc. I’d just pay the ticket, using the excuse that you were moving with traffic flow won’t fly. I had a cop say once “Are you a hunter?” I said yeah, why? He said, when you see a group of deer, do you pick out the buck, or do you just shoot wildly? Well, you pick out the buck. He said, he does the same thing, he can’t get them all, so he picks and chooses the speeders. I was the unlucky pick of the day! As for points on your Canadian license, I don’t know how Canada addresses that, but ten over on a Washington license won’t have much of an impact.
